How to get rid of cockroach bites

  • The first step take when someone is bitten by a cockroach is to wash the bite with water and soap. In case there is a swelling, apply ice onto it. Avoid scratching the wounds as this might infect the bite/s. There are some home remedies for cockroach bites like tea bags, aloe Vera gel lemon juice, and a mixture of baking soda and water. In case of a severe allergic reactions to the cockroach bite see a doctor immediately. This is very important for those who suffer from asthma allergies and other medical conditions particularly the elderly and children.
  • Cold pack or Ice cube is one of the first remedies to apply after a bite as it reduces inflammation and swelling.
  • Rub a peace of cut onion immediately on the bite. It draws out the venom, germs or other substances.
  • Dub some alcohol on the bite, it acts as an antiseptic and a solvent, and helps to reduce the inflammation and prevent infection.
  • Apply baking soda paste made using a teaspoon of baking soda and a little water to the bite. Leave it on the bite for 15 – 20 minutes. The baking soda has a cooling effect and its alkalinity will neutralize the acid of the bite. You can also mix equal parts of vinegar and baking soda into a paste and apply it on the bite.
  • Rub the inside of the banana skin on the bite. This is effective on some people giving amazing results at reducing the irritation and swelling.
  • Carefully peel the inside membrane of a raw egg and place it on the bite. Allow it to completely shrivel and dry. This pulls out the stinger and helps to clear up the redness and swelling which cause itching and pain. This egg remedy is very useful for cockroach bites.
  • Dissolve a teaspoon of Epsom salts in a quart of hot water and dab on the bites for several minutes with a cotton ball.
  • Rub peppermint onto the bite. This helps cool the bite so that it does itch and boosts blood flow to the area and so aiding in removing the foreign matter.
  • Apply hydro cortisone cream, calamine lotion or baking soda paste (in the ratio of 3 teaspoons to 1 teaspoon of water), to the bite several times a day till the symptoms ebb. Take an antihistamine containing diphenhydramine or chlorpheniramine maleate.

A cockroach bite can swell and become itchy and even infected. To avoid the bites, try to keep your home clean to avoid infestation of cockroaches and ensure everybody at your home including children is clean before going to bed. As cockroach bites are not intentional, it’s usually kids or those who don’t clean up after meals that are normally bitten by cockroaches. Washing and brushing teeth is an essential part of preventing cockroach bites. A cockroach bite can last up to a week.

Cockroaches are known to be nocturnal insects and are rarely seen in daylight. They prefer to stay and hide out in dark places, away from the prying public eye. Cockroaches are also very resilient insects which do not easily die. Some researchers have even suggested that they can survive a nuclear explosion, a subject that is still up for debate. These pests thrive in dirty places and any home that is untidy is likely to be infested with them. As do most pests, they multiply at an alarming rate and may be a source of discomfort in your home. Imagine opening your kitchen drawer and you find all these multiple brown insects crawling around. Make no mistake, you might even be left face down when you have visitors and they are all over the place. The best remedy is to keep your house very clean but incase it’s already infested with these stubborn insects, you need exterminate them as soon as possible. So here are a few telltale signs that your home is infested with cockroaches:

1.Seeing a few cockroaches roaming around your house in broad daylight is a sign of serious infestation. Why would nocturnal insects be crawling around during the day unless they feel very comfortable? It only goes to show you that they have been there for some time and have considerably increased in number. The best step for you to take is to choose the best method to exterminate them. If you check all the dark places in your house you will be surprised at what you will find. Cockroaches coming out to play during the day is a really bad sign and that alone should be a call to action.

roaches

2. Cockroaches emit an unpleasant odor, similar to that which comes out of an abandoned house. When you notice this smell, your house has a serious infestation. The odor will be very strong depending on how many there are. This is enough indication that you need to act to clear them from your house.

3.If you notice fecal droppings, usually small and black in color, then you are harboring a lot of roaches in your home. The higher the number of fecal droppings the higher the number of roaches present. When cockroaches are present in a small number it’s usually very difficult to notice the droppings. So get acting and clear your house of the stubborn pests because they have found a home and have no plans of moving.

4.Another sign of cockroach infestation in your home is the presence of egg casings. These pests usually produce egg casings that hold several eggs within them. This is also the reason why they are able to reproduce so fast. The casings are usually brownish in color and you’ll be able to see them around the house, either in clusters or singly. This is another very common sign that cockroaches have infested your home.

5.Presence of dead cockroaches is usually another sign of infestation. You will notice them on the floor or when you open drawers. The live ones as usual prefer to stay in the dark and so you might not see them. Finding dead roaches in your house is a clear indication of a bigger number of live ones present in the house.

Cockroaches are very stubborn pests. There may be more signs of infestation but these are the most common ones. These insects will turn your home into their own within a very short time. The best way of keeping roaches out of your house is maintaining very high levels of cleanliness since they thrive in dirty places. When performing routine cleaning around the house, ensure that you clean even the areas that are not normally easily accessed. This will discourage piling of dirt in these areas, a very high attraction for cockroaches. Once you notice these signs in your home then you are most likely hosting so many cockroaches and you need to move fast to get rid of them. This task is not usually easy especially if they have multiplied in number but still it can be done. The best prevention measure is to keep your home clean at all times since they don’t thrive in tidy places.

Roaches also called cockroaches are insects that fall under the order of Blattaria, and there are four common species termed as pests. These pest species include; American cockroach, Oriental cockroach, German cockroach and Asian cockroach. Roaches like human habitats and a majority of them make their homes in where people live. Their saliva contains harmful microbes hence they can spread their saliva to anything they come across thus they can damper with your books, contaminate your food, destroy your wallpapers and electronics. Other species spread germs and diseases to human beings, so there is a need to evict them permanently and naturally out of your house. There are many methods to eradicate roaches from your house like the use of bait, trap and building a barrier, but I consider the natural way as the best and safest method of killing roaches. Below are some of the best ways to kill roaches naturally:

Baking Powder and Sugar Mixture.

baking sugar

The use of baking powder and sugar is the easiest method since all the requirements are readily available also the procedure is very simple since equal ratios of the two items are necessary. The items are mixture thoroughly and then spread them specifically in regions that are infested mostly with roaches. The common baking powder is a base and when roaches consume the mixture this basic component reacts with acids in roach’s stomach causing bloat hence killing it.

Water and Soap solution.

soap-bubbles

The normal bathing soap mixed with some amount of water is another natural way. The solution of the mixture is sprayed directly to a dense collection of cockroaches. Hence, this solution will block the pores that they use for breathing causing suffocation and immediate death.

Mixing of Onion, Garlic, and Pepper.

Use single garlic glove, a small amount of grinned pepper paper and onion squeezed into a container of water but depends on the amount of solution you require and the number of roaches available. Also, liquid soap equal size to tablespoon may be added to catalyze the solution and smear all over areas where roaches have infested, and the irritating odor of the solution will make them escape from the house.

Use of Petroleum Jelly.

Petroleum-jelly

This method applies to most of the people in various places worldwide. An open and wide mouth jar is used where petroleum jelly is smeared on the inner side almost close to the mouth of the jar and place leftovers of food or fruits covers for banana inside the jar. The odor of bananas will attract their attention and they will be trapped by petroleum jelly located on the rim. The next day you put them in a container with soap solution to kill them. This method is done mostly on the night, and the jar placed where roaches are highly populated ie. in the kitchen.

Ammonia solution.

ammonia-cockroaches

This method is recommended to be done after every week or two weeks depending on the population of roaches. At least two or more cups of ammonia are mixed with water in a basin and then sprinkle on all areas infested with roaches. The odor of ammonia is very irritating hence it will get rid of them permanently.
Hence after applying these ways it is recommended to take a step forward in avoiding roaches re-infesting on the same areas in the house, and you can destroy their nests. These are the proved and the best ways to kill roaches naturally and permanently. Try them today!

1.Spraying them with the help of insecticides

We have many effective insecticides on the market that you can use to kill all the cockroaches by spraying. These insecticides contain Cyfluthrin, a poisonous chemical responsible for killing roaches. Before you buy any insecticide, ensure that you look at its properties because some do not work. If you are not sure about the right chemical to buy, seek for advice from any of the pest control companies within your reach. After buying the insecticide, thoroughly spray all corners of your house where cockroaches are likely to hide. If you do not prefer using chemicals to remove roaches from your house because of one reason or the other then you can opt for traps. Cockroach traps feature an adhesive material that will act as the bait. The adhesive provided will trap these pests the moment they enter to have a taste of the bait. 3.Use of liquid concentrates

Application of liquid concentrates will serve as a deterrent or poison that will keep away the cockroaches for a period of two or more weeks. Simply dilute your liquid concentrate from a trusted dealer using water and then spray in the cracks within the walls as well as any other potential areas where you feel cockroaches are likely to hide. With the help of dilute mixture, thoroughly wipe the floor of your house and any other surface within the area where most cockroaches tend to hide.

Spraying

4.Denying them water and food

You need to understand that cockroaches breed in areas that are dump and warm. These pests cannot live without water and foods for long. Although cockroaches can live up to one month without eating any food, they will not live for more than a week if there is no source of water for them. To kill them quickly, ensure that you remove both water and food. Do not remove water only since we have types of food that contain water. You will have to check whether you have any leakages within the walls that allow water to enter into the house. You can combine this method with the use of bait because it will make these pests to be more interested in feeding on the gel. In order to remove food from your house you will have to keep it clean. If you have bins in your house, remember to cover them with lids and empty them before they overflow.
